Helping to reduce car pollution

Year 5 pupils at Headley Park have designed a range of posters to encourage parent/carers not to drive to school and pupils to walk or ride.

A banner incorporating some of the posters will be displayed on the school railings.200001140500

Poo Patrol Big Spray Day

Headley Park have registered to support the sustainable learning assault on dirty pavements.  Dog poo on pavements is disgusting and avoidable – lets put an end to it.

Travel to school

In December 2016 Headley Park achieved the Bronze accreditation for Modeshift Stars.

Our Bronze award recognised all the great things we have done to encourage active travel to school. These include:

  • The second year of participation in Living Streets Walk to School campaign
  • Supporting the 20mph speed restrictions
  • Organising a survey for a school cross patrol
  • Clearing walking routes to school and raising awareness of dog fouling
  • Working with our local PCSO to address inconsiderate parking
  • Road Safety and Cycle training.

Elderflower Cordial

21/06/2016

Last week in cookery year 3 made Headley Park Elderflower Cordial from the trees on the school field.
Here’s our recipe…
4 heads of Elderflower
1 lemon
1 Orange
300g Sugar
20g Citric Acid
1 pint hot water

Dissolve sugar and citric acid in hot water and pour into large bowl. Squeeze orange and lemon and add juice, skin and pips to bowl. Add heads of elderflower and stir. Leave for 48hrs and then strain mixture through a tea towel.
Dilute cordial with fizzy water and add ice if you wish. Delicious!

Headley Park in Bloom!

18/06/2016

A few weeks ago we told you about every class planting edible plants in tubs in the Eco garden. They are now flourishing, along with other plants put in by our hard working gardening club. There are some pictures below. Hopefully we will have some delicious produce to share with the community very soon. This week we have judges from the Bristol in Bloom competition coming to see what we’ve done. We’ll let you know how we get on…

Edible Plants

22/05/2016

All the classes across the school have been given a tub and some seeds and will be growing edible plants. Here are photos of year 3 planting rocket, tomato and onion in their tub. There are also pictures of children from our Eco Garden team watering the tubs during playtime. Hopefully we will have lots of produce growing soon, that can be used in some delicious recipes. Thank you to the children from Gardening Club who painted all the tubs and filled them with soil ready for planting.

Eco Garden Update

Our Eco garden is flourishing. There are many different plants, planted by the hard working team at gardening club. There will soon be even more, as each class will be growing their own tub of edible plants. The garden is also the outdoor residence of Cookie, year 5’s gorgeous rabbit.

Here is our Fair trade team selling delicious snacks at our weekly tuck shop. The children on the team have managed their own budget, ordered the products, organised and labelled the snacks and run the shop. Great skills for life, well done team!
